Published on the occasion of the exhibition O desenho impreciso de cada rosto humano, reflectido. Retratos de Júlio Pomar, curated by Sara Antónia Matos and Pedro Faro, which reflects on how Júlio Pomar thought the genre of portrait over more than seventy years and across various creative phases, from neo-realism (in the 1940s) until his death in 2018. Portrait painting and drawing give a partial account of how the artist established relationships with different people, ranging from his intimate circle to public figures in Portuguese society. Moreover, the show includes several self-portraits from different stages of his life. The exhibition features more than fifty works, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and assemblages, some of which are now shown for the first time, from the Atelier-Museum Júlio Pomar collection, as well as from various private collections and from the artist’s estate.
