After an open call for works the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar Award is given to a contemporary art curatorial project with three simultaneous components: artistic production, critical or essayistic production, and curatorial practice.
The format of the projects, which must comply with current conditions, must focus on a solo or group exhibition at AMJP to be produced and financially supported by the institution.
The exhibitions should not feature new works and they must include at least one work by Júlio Pomar.
Projects will result in publications in the scope of the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar books collection (editorial coordination by AMJP).
Seeking to bring together curators, artists, and institutions at a time when most art prizes in Portugal are awarded directly to artists, the AMJP Curatorship Award fosters contemporary art curatorship, critical production, and publishing.
The award is open to Portuguese citizens and foreign residents who can apply individually or as a group. Curators or curatorial teams must have curated at least one exhibition, but are not required to have specific curatorial training.
